This is a list of old news stories and articles dealing with the world of Voice over IP, also known as VoIP. VoIP allows an internet user to make local and long distance telephone calls over the internet using their regular telephone. In the old days, pre 2003, VoIP technology and line compression technology didn't allow for any type of consistent quality when making telephone calls over the internet. Now, though, even businesses are starting to use internet based phone systems because of the tremendous cost savings, and the huge increase in quality that has been achieved over the past 18-24 months by companies such as Vonage and Packet8.
