A page for local phone service from Qwest was added today. I say Qwest, because I only added local service from Qwest in Qwest’s 14 states where they offer service. The 14 states are AZ, CO, ID, IA, MN, MT, NE, NM, ND, OR, SD, UT, WA & WY. The link to sign up for local and/or long distance service from Qwest is a little weird, because it routes you through their high speed internet service page first, and you have to pick a plan before you can move on. I’m pretty sure that they are doing this because the FCC is getting rid of landline phone service, and Centurylink wants new customers that they are getting from Qwest to be able to use their digital calling plans instead of the old analog system.
Basic dial tone starts somewhere between $12 and $24 per month, and it is totally dependent on where you live, so I can’t give you a better range than that. To find out for sure, you’re going to have to go over to the Qwest local phone service page and work your way through the system. There are other calling plans to chose from, if you don’t just want local service, and they go from 5 cent per minute long distance plans, all the way up to Qwest’s unlimited local and long distance phone service, that comes with all the bells and whistles for $45 per month.
