Local Telephone News Stories
These news stories deal with local telephone service issues from across America, and are gleaned from the main local telephone providers around the nation. Some stories also come from the FCC and state telecommunication regulatory agencies.
Now, it should be noted, that I have no sympathy for telephone companies, so you might need to take my comments with a grain of salt. I will not be nice, nor shall I be fair, but from time to time, I will attempt to be amusing.
Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission Stops AT&T (Jan 15, 2004): AT&T is unhappy because the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission won't let them undercut their supplier. [At least that is my take on the story.] Since local companies have to provide all of the physical and functional aspects of the local telephone network, including the switches and wires running into your home, I think that they should get to make sure they at least make enough money to maintain their network.
Indiana Utility Regulatory Commissions Statement (PDF Format Jan 5, 2004): In the meantime, the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission says that "The new rate provides a balance sufficient for SBC to invest in it's network and maintain employment, without forcing competitors out of the market". The really fun part of this whole thing is that it looks like both SBC and AT&T where trying to cheat, lie and steal their way to more money. SBC had requested a 175% increase in rates, while the competitors, AT&T included, requested that the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission lower SBC's wholesale rates by 60%.
The Real Cost of Your MCI Unlimited Calling Plan (Dec 4, 2003):
Here's a little MCI Update I did for a customer in Califoria when they asked why their $49.99 MCI unlimited plan was costing them over $80.00 per month.
MCI Buying Companies While Still in Bankruptcy (Nov 17, 2003):
OK, I'm a little upset here. MCI is activly buying companies and spending money while in bankruptcy and owing millions of dollars to creditors. The real reason I'm angry is because they owe me money. They owe me thousands of dollars that they aren't going to pay because a judge said that debts owed to agents didn't have to be paid. Maybe if they paid their bills, they wouldn't be able to buy companies with my money!
