With teen cell phone usage on the rise, parents grow more concerned about their wallets. Teens often don't track their own minutes or keep up on their text messaging, leaving their parents with large bills. Verizon Wireless has come up with a way to help teens and parents keep track of their minutes and text message usage, for their Southern California customers.

"Many parents and their teens rely on wireless phones to stay connected as daily life gets more complicated," stated Marni Walden, the regional president of Verizon Wireless, "Yet while their phones offer some security and safety, they want to make sure they stay within their family's budget. Knowing the size of their minute and TXT messaging packages, plus using Verizon Wireless' tools for tracking usage, can help teens take responsibility and practice managing real world costs."

Walden continued by citing the following free services and monthly packages that will assist Southern California parents track their teen's minute and text usage:
· #DATA: A parent can call this number from their teen's cell phone to hear the text messaging use; the message is updated three times daily. Customers can request a free text message be sent to their teen's cell phone notifying them of their use.

· #BAL: A parent can call this number from their teen's cell phone or can access their teen's accounts by calling 800-922-0204. From here parents can hear the minute usage and get information about payments received. A text message can also be sent to the teen's cell phone explaining minute details.
· Parents can reduce costs by adding a messaging bundle to their teen's service plan. For $10 a month, users get unlimited text, picture and video messaging to other Verizon customers and gets 250 messages to non-Verizon customers.


· Choosing a family plan helps eliminate used minutes between family members. Plans start at $69.99 and include two lines.

Verizon users can access the #DATA and #BAL numbers 24 hours a day and is free of all charges including airtime.
