AOL Tests Mobile Access

America Online has announced that it has begun testing cell phone Internet searching devices for mobile devices supporting Wireless Application Protocol. The service will allow users to access AOL Search, PinPoint Shopping Search and AOL Yellow Pages.

Internet browsing will automatically be formatted to fit to a user's wireless screen and links will be clickable making it automated. Himesh Bhise, the vice president and general manager of AOL Mobile and America Online, " At AOL, we are committed to providing people with easy access to the full range of information and services available on the Internet wherever they may go. That's why we have 'Right-Sized the Internet' for mobile screens, giving users the power to search or shop for anything they need."

PinPoint Shopping Search offers comparison shopping of millions of items and thousands of merchants as well as offering the ability to check merchant reputations. AOL Yellow Pages offers local business listings that the ability to click and call and offers MapQuest direction services.

Currently AOL isn't adding any additional charges for this service, however wireless providers may charge for the feature. Users can test this new service by typing mobile.aol.search.com into their cell phone browser.
