Cell Phone Sales on the Rise

A young student is in a car accident and needs to be rushed for medical attention. The police officer has no idea who he should contact to notify them of the accident. The officer then notices a cell phone and opens the phone book or contacts screen and scrolls to find an ICE contact. ICE, or in case of emergency numbers are a great way to help officials contact a loved one in an emergency situation.

This new idea is spreading through e-mails like crazy and is sparking a response from many police and fire departments. "When you get on the scene, you find the cell phone and you've got an unconscious party, it's another tool that we can find for the family to use as a family contact. We're going to have to educate firefighters on what to look for. This e-mail message has gone around the world," said Gilbert Bennett, with the Houston Fire Department.

During an accident sometimes the victim cannot speak or the officer cannot find an emergency contact, so this is an easy way to help officials keep loved ones updated.

How to set up an ICE contact on your cell phone: Just add a new contact to your phone book under ICE and add a tag. i.e. ICE Mom, ICE Joe, ICE 1, ICE 2, or if you are visiting family out of town set up an ICE for that city such as ICE Houston.
