Net10 Wireless Review

There are a lot of prepaid wireless companies which exists nowadays especially in the United States, like Net10 Wireless for example. They all have one purpose or one thing in common – for everyone to be able to communicate without hassle.

What people like about Net10 is that they can get prepaid plans – because, like it or not people want to be very practical about a lot of things – and you know that there are more important things rather than just spending it all on a phone.

You cannot help but deal with the fact that communication is important, but does one need to get a postpaid plan just to continue being connected to his friends and also his colleagues? This is why prepaid plans are being offered and also being favored by those people – especially, most especially – who have had the sad experience of being charged with something which they did not fully understand.

What does Net10 and their prepaid plan have that other don’t?

The fact alone that it is prepaid is good enough, but to add to that – for one minute calls, one will just get charged 10 cents – although there is a BUT or a downside to it, there are no discounts during night time or during the weekend – which mostly some other prepaid wireless companies offer. Although, if you did read the agreement you will know that.

This may sound not very good for everyone – especially the fact that one will not get discounted during weekends – but then again, nothing is perfect and you should know that there is a good side and bad side in prepaid plans – just like in almost everything else for that matter.

In terms of refilling airtime load for net10 easy minutes prepaid plans, one can just simply go to any refilling store for an activating card which can be purchased from one hundred dollars ($100) being the highest and thirty dollars ($30) as the lowest. Although it is very much important to understand that – like everything – has an expiration date. Like the thirty dollars will expire after thirty days – used or unused.

A lot of people always wanted to get a phone or a prepaid plan for that matter, what Net10 Wireless promises everyone is that one will not just get a prepaid plan but also have the convenience while using it.

This may be the perfect solution for everyone in the united States of America, because where most of the leading wireless companies such as Verizon, Alltel, At&t, T-Mobile or US Cellular – Net10 Wireless is there too.

Ten cents is all that will be charged for one minute calls even if it’s just a local call – nationwide long distance or even for roaming; although, like all the other plans for both prepaid and postpaid on whichever wireless provider you would be enroll yourself to – you have yet to call the customer service and have your phone activated for international long distance calls.

And to top it all off, Net10 wireless phones, whether it’s for post paid or prepaid, come with colored screens.

If you think that Net10 wireless is the network for you, then all you have to do is to check it out and determine for yourself.

HP Touchpads

I picked up a couple 32GB HP Touchpads over the weekend from someone who ordered more than they needed. So far, I’ve set up my Skype account and had a video conference with my sick daughter. (Of course, she was just on the couch in the other room, but that was better than having to actually go in there and face THE SICKNESS!)

I also set up my GPS and email, so I’ll be able to work from Belize when I get there. I’m currently in the process of downloading books from Amazon so I have something to read, and downloading game and Spanish translation apps from HP (and yes, I know that the official language of Belize is English). I was told there was an app that lets me mirror my desktop, and I’d like to find it, since I can’t run Netflix or Hulu from the Touchpad.

I watched a video on overclocking the processor on the Touchpad, since the native speed of the processor is 1.5 GHz, not the 1.2 GHz that they have them set at. It’s supposed to just take 30 minutes or so, but I’m not sure if I feel up to it or not… I also heard rumors that there is a hack to dual boot to Android, and that’ll be cool if I can figure it out.

In the meantime, I don’t like the fact that the Touchpad doesn’t have an outward facing camera, and there aren’t very many apps, but for $199, it’s hard to justify whining about what it doesn’t have.

Facebook Blocker App

Is your Facebook addiction getting a little out of hand, then head over to Shmeed.com and get their free Facebook Blocker Application. The cool thing about the app is that it blocks you from visiting Facebook for a set amount of time, and nothing you do will let you get around it. The minimum time limit you can set it for is 45 minutes.

The Facebook blocker app works on laptops and desktops, and there is also a compatibility feature so you can check if it will run on your device. If it doesn’t, then maybe you could float them a few bucks and they could fix it to work on yours. If we’re lucky, they’ll soon build an app that lets us block our choice of websites, email, cell phones and other apps. Can you imagine how much the world would get done if you could block Angry Birds? LOL

iPhone 5 Unlimited Data Plan

According to a story in Bloomberg’s tech section, it looks like Sprint is going to offer unlimited data and calling plans to new iPhone 5 users. Sprint already offers unlimited plans to Android users, and since Androiders tend to use more data than iPhoners [Nielsen.com], the plan shouldn’t cost much less or more than the $99.99 that Sprint is charging now.

When I checked Consumer Reports to see what they thought of Sprints cell phone service, they reported that it was good in most cities that they got reader responses from. AT&T ranked the worst, and TMobile and Verizon were right there with Sprint (Sprint tied with Verizon, who is usually the carrier out front…). If this thinking holds true for consumers who haven’t signed a contract yet, then Sprint should make major headway in signing up iPhone 5 users. They may even get a large chunk of AT&T’s current iPhone users, if they are unhappy with the quality of their AT&T cell phone service.

And finally, according to a Sprint insider report on SprintFeed.com, There is an employee vacation/time-off blackout from September 30th to October 15th, 2011. The thoughts are that those dates cover the initial launch of Sprint’s iPhone5. Of course, if that’s true, then my guess would be a release date of October 1st oe 2nd, since they will want a little time to train their store reps in all the coolness that will be iPhone5. But, according to my wife, I’ve never been right in my life, so we’ll have to wait and see…

What are your thoughts on the new iPhone5? Are you going to buy an iPhone5, or are your going to stick with your old iPhone4? Add a comment bellow and let the world know your thoughts on the new Sprint iPhone 5.

HTC EVO 4G From Sprint

HTC EVO 4G is an Android base phone on Sprint’s network and the first 4G phone in the United States. It comes with HTC Sense UI on top of the Android 2.1 OS and runs smoothly on a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor with 512 MB RAM.

HTC makes really good smartphones but the first time HTC EVO 4G is picked up, its bright 4.3 inch high-resolution display catches the eye. It has four capacitive buttons on the bottom of the touchscreen to interact with the OS.

The smartphone provides decent audio and video quality. Everything is loud and clear on streamed high definition videos.

The 1.3 mega-pixel front facing camera is great for any type of video chat applications.

The 8 mega-pixel camera with LED flash, takes nice pictures and and is able to shoot and record 720p HD videos. It may not be as good like most dedicated video cameras but the quality is outstanding for a camcorder on a phone.

It also features a kickstand that will hold up for the life of the phone. This makes the phone good to be set up on a desk and be able to watch movies easily on it. And another cool thing is it can be used as a mobile hotspot using a 3G, or 4G, network.

Overall, the HTC EVO 4G is a great alternative to a lot of the phones out there. Create a live background with moving wallpapers, easily add widgets, change icons and set up multiple home pages are just few of the cool customization features. The hardware is great, it feels good in your hand with nice little weight to it but not heavy at all.

No HP For Me

My keyboard is wet… If I were writing on paper, the tears would smear the ink. If I were a teenage girl, it would be the end of the world and I’d have to be put on suicide watch. Sniff, Sniff, Sob, Sniff.

There is no HP Touchpad for me. I’m devastated! After 4 days of hunting for the elusive $149 HP Touchpad, I found some, and ended up ordered 2 of them from Amazon.com on Sunday. And, the order was accepted. BUT, I just found out that my order has been cancelled, along with hundreds, or thousands, of other HP Touchpad orders on Amazon.

What really sucks, is that I had to find out through Facebook, when a friend posted a Youtube video about what Hitler had to say about not getting his HP Touchpad from Amazon’s OnSale, with a follow up from PC World. I never even got an email from Amazon telling me my order was cancelled. The only way I found out, was by going to Amazon and checked my order status. And, according to Amazon, I never ordered anything. It’s like they’re trying to make it look like I made a mistake…

I can hear the customer service rep at Amazon now. “I’m sorry Sir, you must not have  actually ordered an HP Touchpad, if you had, the order history would show it. I’m sorry you made a mistake Sir, please be sure to finalize your order next time before leaving the ordering page.” Blah, Blah Blah!

So, I’m angry because I didn’t get my HP Touchpads from Amazon, and I’m sad and frustrated because it’s now to late to get one from anywhere else. And, on top of that, there is absolutely nothing I can do about it, but sit here and cry on my keyboard. (And, if it shorts out, I’m not buying a new one from Amazon… So There!)

Does anyone have an extra Touchpad they want to sell me? Please? Sniff, Sniff, Sob, Sniff!

Hunting The HP Touchpad

WOW, I had a good weekend! The week ended rocky, with me getting into trouble with my wife and her friends (OK, one friend… Xoomers don’t have friends, just other Xoom Losers to share the “Experience” with) about the Lot Lizard story I wrote on Thursday. But, Friday and Saturday were fun, with Sunday ending up being awesome!

Friday I got an email, and a bunch of Facebook notices from friends, that HP was discontinuing their Touchpad tablets, and you could get them for $100 for the 16 Giggers and $150 for the 32 Giggers. (According to my spellcheck software, I just made up a new word and spelled spellcheck wrong.)  So, I spent Friday and Saturday in the, what ended up as worthless, pursuit of cheap HP Touchpad Tablet PC’s.

But, while hunting for the elusive HP Touchpad was frustrating, it was also fun. My son and I got to run all over town, going from Walmart, to Staples, to K-Mart and then to Shopko, with stops off at McDonalds and a local burger joint for drinks and snacks. While we never found what we were looking for, the adrenaline rush we got running into each store, like the last of 49ers trying to stake a claim, was still fun, even if it was fruitless.

But, on Sunday afternoon, I got a break. One of my wife’s Xoomer Losers sent her a link from Amazon, for HP Touchpads for the aforementioned cheaper-than-dirt prices. So, I hopped online and found that they still had a few left. When it was all said and done, I ended up with two of the 32 Giggers, and my dad ended up with two 32ers also.

Of course, the problem that I’m running into now, is what do I do with them? I know I’m strong enough not to let MY Touchpad turn me into a pseudo Xoomer, I was going to say Toucher, but that just sounds wrong. LOL But, what do I do with the other one? I’m not sure I know anyone as strong as I am, and I don’t want to be responsible for the destruction of another family by passing the addiction to someone else. I’m sure I’ll come up with something, but right now it’s a true dilemma and is weighing heavy on my heart…

In the meantime, if you think you’re strong enough, head over to Amazon and see if they still have any HP Touchpads left for $100. If not, I’m sure that over the next couple of weeks, all the extras that people bought will start showing up on eBay and Craigslist, as families start to understand the evil that they’ve brought into their homes.

Xoom Creates A Lot Lizard

OK, not a Lot Lizard in the true sense of the word, where prostitutes set up rendezvous in parking lots for money, but it’s almost that bad. My wife travels from parking lot to parking lot on her lunch hour, or when traveling, to find WiFi hotspots for her Motorola Xoom. The only damn time she’s not on her Xoom is when she’s asleep, or in the shower*.

The kids and I didn’t know that we would be losing a wife and mother when we bought here the Xoom for Mother’s Day, we just thought we were getting here a “little something” to help pass time during soccer practice and doctor’s appointments. Little did we know that the Xoom would slowly take over her life, to the point where she *quit taking showers because “IT” (the Xoom, her one true love!) “might get wet”.

When we first bought her the Xoom, she almost took it back to Staples, because it was “Too Hard” to figure out, set-up and/or understand how to do anything. That lasted about four days, then she decided she was going to keep it and “Give It A Chance“. The “Chance” part of her Xoom relationship lasted about two more days, which is about how long it took her to set up her Gmail account and get everything forwarded to it, download Angry Birds and 40 other Android Apps, and get hooked up with Facebook. By that time Facebook and Angry Birds had taken over her life, with a little help from Amazon’s downloadable books.

Now, months after the start of the addiction, her days look like this:

  • Alarm goes off.
  • Roll over, pick up the Xoom and check Facebook and Email.
  • Go to the kitchen and grab a cup of coffee.
  • Hit a news app for a quick news fix, then flip to the current book she’s reading from Amazon while she drinks her coffee. (She used to talk to me while we drank coffee…)
  • Send her husband (ME) an SMS to throw her scrubs in the dryer and top off her coffee. (Yea, like I’d forget…)
  • Dryer alarm goes off. (Yep, that was a quick 50 minutes, huh?)
  • She gets dressed, lovingly tucks her Xoom in it’s pretty black leather case, sticks it in her purse and heads out the door. (“Aren’t you going to take a shower and maybe put on some deodorant?” “At least the deodorant?” I yell!)
  • “Maybe tomorrow,” she says as she heads out the door.
  • “Yeah, but you’ve said that the last two days. Shouldn’t you at least use the DEODORANT?” I yell again!
  • SLAM! goes the front door.
  • While she’s at work, I get regular Emails and Facebook updates, so I at least can see if she’s OK, or having a good or bad day. (As if I care anymore. In the old days she would have called and texted a couple of times to tell me how she was doing and ask about me and the kids, but not anymore… Damn Xoom!)
  • At lunchtime, as the title of this story implies, my wife drives around town looking for hotspots that have “CLEAN FOOD” so she doesn’t get her stupid Xoom dirty and greasy. (It’s got Guerrilla Glass, so it’s not like it matters. (Did I say “STUPID XOOM” yet?))
  • If we’re all lucky, she can’t find a WiFi hotspot with good connectivity. (Usually cause there’s already 43 other “XOOMERS” (Xoom+losers) in the parking lot.)
  • If she finds a good hotspot, then we get Emails and Facebook updates about her lunch, the weather, the Xoom loser in the next car and maybe her double, quad, chocolate, breve, barista special mumbo jumbo latte from Starbucks. Seriously, who gives a “SWEATY *SS CRACK” what you had at Starbucks while you were Xooming! (Didn’t Zooming use to be associated with crack addicts?)
  • She goes back to work. (Since she hasn’t showered since only the Good Lord knows when, I sure as heck hope she ran the air while she was sitting in the parking lot at Starbucks…)
  • Oh, Wait! More $#@#@%!!$ updates and Emails!
  • She comes home from work and sits in the car for 45 minutes. (We have good WiFi in the driveway.)
  • She drags into the house, looking all hot and sweaty and greasy and… HOMELESS! (Oh, wait, that’s what she looked like when she left this morning.)
  • She pours herself a drink and changes into comfortable clothes. (I don’t know how the hell anything can be comfortable when your that “hot and sweaty and greasy and… HOMELESS!“, But she seems to think so.)
  • “I need to talk to you,” I say.
  • “Message me on Facebook, I’m busy right now.”
  • “No, the kids and I need to talk to you.” GAG, Cough, Choke… “and could you please go take a shower before dinner?”
  • “I’m not hungry, I found the rest of yesterday’s chicken wrap between the seats while I was Xooming in the driveway.”
  • “Well, could you at least take a shower?” I ask, as the dog starts rolling on her feet…

I’m going to stop now, because I’m sure you’re starting to get the picture. I also don’t want you to think this is funny. While it might sound funny when you’re reading about some other loser’s problems, just remember, it could happen to you, or someone you love.

Anyway, my wife will be home in a few minutes, and the kids and I are going to have a true intervention. We’ve hired DR. Drew to be here, so maybe this time we’ll actually get through to her. Wish us luck…
