VoIP Partnership between Boingo and Skype
July 14, 2005
Boingo Wireless and Skype International teamed up to offer VoIP services through Skype International from 18,000 Wi-Fi hot spots worldwide. These hot spots are available in coffee shops, hotels and bookstores. Most are available in the United States but many are spread out over 35 countries.
The service costs $7.95 for most customers and as little as $2.95 for infrequent customers to use the service for two hours. This gives them broadband access from Boingo through Skype.
Currently a beta version of the product is available on both companies' websites, but prices and the product could change. Skype International will still offer the ability to make free calls to other Skype users over the Internet or make inexpensive calls to landlines or mobile phones.
Boinog and Skype feel that offering this type of technology gives them the edge in the market, helping to continue the growth of both companies.
