Afford-a-Phone FCC Programs: LifeLine Assitance and Link-Up America
The FCC's afford-a-phone programs allows low income households the opportunity to get connected with the rest of America by getting a discount on their telephone installation service through the Fcc's Link-Up America program, and/or a monthly discount on their basic monthly telephone service through the FCC's Lifeline program. Lifeline Program:
With the FCC's Lifeline program, low income Americans can save from $6.75 to $9.50 on their basic monthly telephone service. The rate depends on the state in which the low income family lives.
Link-Up America:
The FCC's link-up America plan pays 50% (up to $30) of the installation charge for telephone service for low income users in the United States. This program, administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company, is funded by Universal Service Fees collected by your local telephone company.
